GABBY Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie was said to be “in a hurry” when he was “picked up as a hitchhiker” towards the end of August.
TikToker Miranda Baker believes she picked him up on August 29, four days after the last time Petito was known to have called her family.
Laundrie is thought to have told Baker he had been camping alone while Petito worked on their social media page in their van.
According to Baker, Laundrie got out of her car when she said she was heading to Jackson Hole.
"He got out, and you know, he was thankful and he was kind of in a hurry. He said he was going to go across the street into the parking lot and find someone else to give him a ride, but, when we looked back 10 or 15 seconds after he got out of the vehicle he was just gone," she said.
Neighbors of the Laundrie family in Florida reportedly spotted Laundrie three days ago “before the police arrived”.
A man wearing flip flops, said to resemble Laundrie, was spotted walking in the woods behind their home.
Yung Fieri, responding to a Twitter thread on Laundrie's disappearance by ABC anchor Jeff Butera, wrote: “Please share!! YES I CALLED FBI. Neighbors saw what appears to be Brian walking out in the woods behind the home before police arrived! He was even barefoot like we’ve seen!!"
In recent developments in the bizarre case, cops have now called off the search for Laundrie after he went missing as well.
Laundrie was named as a “person of interest” in the case – days after returning home alone from the couple's cross-country road trip on September 1.
He disappeared on September 14 after telling his parents he was going hiking in Carlton Reserve in Florida – an area made up of around 25,000 acres of wilderness.
Cops are also fearing that Laundrie may have hurt himself while in the reserve.

North Port police spokesperson Josh Taylor said: “Does anyone not think it’s possible he went out there and shot himself in the head? Sure.”
The news comes after the FBI confirmed that a body matching Petito’s was discovered in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, Sunday night.
The attorney for the Laundrie family released a statement the same day: "The news about Gabby Petito is heartbreaking. The Laundrie family prays for Gabby and her family."
Gabby's dad Joe Petito said his daughter "touched the world" in an emotional Instagram post.
Cops have confirmed an autopsy will be carried out on the body tomorrow, September 21.
The vlogger and her fiancé Laundrie started their road trip in July after leaving New York.
They traveled in their white camper van across the midwestern US and visited national parks in Kansas, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming.
The 22-year-old was last seen leaving a Salt Lake City hotel with Laundrie on August 24.
Just weeks earlier, the pair had been probed by cops about an apparent dispute in Utah.
She last spoke to her family on August 25 as she informed them that they had made it to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Gabby was reported missing on September 11 – more than two weeks after speaking to her mom.
Laundrie was named as a "person of interest" on September 15 and accused by police of "hindering" the investigation. He has not been charged.
