Bookies slash odds for 30C next week as summer set to return after gloom

Bookies are predicting a long awaited heatwave soon following weeks of grey skies.

Ladbrokes have reduced the odds of the temperature reaching 30C anywhere in the UK before the end of the week from 6/1 to 3/1, creating the perfect storm for weather enthusiasts to try their luck.

This is in spite of Met Office predictions that the temperature will remain in the high 10s and low 20s next week, with highs of 25C predicted in London and heavy rain and thunderstorms on the horizon throughout the country interspersed with sunny spells.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Things are about to get a whole lot hotter and there's every chance temperatures reach highs of 30C in the next few days, if the latest odds are anything to go by."

The last time the UK saw a 30 degree heatwave was in late June, and since then many Brits have experienced lower temperatures, wind and rain, and even tornadoes.

Despite the brief heatwave earlier in the summer many people have been keen for warmer weather and sunshine.

In addition to the temperature predictions the Met Office has issued weather warnings in the East, South West and South East, including London, for heavy rain that may disrupt travel on Monday.

Parts of Scotland may also see flooding following heavy showers according to SEPA, Scotland's flood forecasting, flood warning and flood risk management authority.

The weather should begin to clear up by Wednesday, which should be mostly dry and interspersed with cloud with the odd shower.

From then it might look a lot more likely that those high temperatures could be reached in some parts of the UK.

If the bookies are right this heatwave would be a welcome break from the tepid weather most of us have been experiencing as of late.
