Sarah Keith-Lucas highlighted that heavy showers will start to form in Spain and Portugal on Wednesday. The BBC meteorologist added that France and the UK will also face thundery conditions on Thursday.

Ms Keith-Lucas said: “The heat has been building over recent days across some central and western parts of Europe.

“There are high humidity levels as well all under a big area of high pressure.

“There is low pressure moving in across parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and also heading up to Scandinavia.

“There will be some brisk winds for Sweden and Norway as well.

“We have also got some heavy rain down towards the southeast, particularly areas surrounding the black sea.”

She added: “Into Spain and Portugal, we will start to see some heavy showers forming on Wednesday.

“Heading into Thursday we are starting to see a more thundery breakdown in the weather across parts of Spain, Portugal, France and the UK.”

The BBC’s long-range forecast for the week June 21st-27th outlines low pressure developing across northern Europe.

BBC Weather: Humid conditions as thunderstorms hit UK

The BBC wrote: “The unsettled second half of next week will likely be a sign of things to come as we head toward the end of June.

“High pressure, which has been in western and northern Europe for the past week or so and brought us drier, warmer weather, will shift away to the west.

“Warm water in the Atlantic Ocean will mean high pressure will want to form there instead of in Europe.

“As it moves away, a large-scale low pressure through will develop in its place over northern Europe.

“This means we will likely see a more unsettled pattern with occasional deep Atlantic weather systems moving in from the west or northwest.

“These weather systems will cause some breezy, wet days broken up by some sunny and dry spells.”

The forecast continued: “The wind direction will tend to drag air in from the northern Atlantic near Iceland or Greenland, meaning our temperatures will tend to be near or a bit below average.

“Scotland and Northern Ireland are more likely to see below average temperatures, while the southern half of the country is nearer to normal for late-June.

“High pressure may try and build into western Europe, especially later in the week but it will tend to stay south of us.”
