With the X-Men and the Fantastic Four now under Kevin Feige’s careful supervision, it’s only a matter of time until mutantkind and our beloved family of explorers join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Which team of heroes will come into the landscape first? Are the X-Men about to join and fight beside the Avengers? Or, will Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and The Thing beat Professor X and Wolverine to the punch? Based on a few insider leaks, it could go either way. So, let’s examine scenarios in which the X-Men appear first, scenarios in which the Fantastic Four appear first, and a situation in which they appear together.
Will the Silver Surfer appear in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder?’
Thor: Love and Thunder is a major part of Marvel’s upcoming Phase 4. And, rumor has it that the Silver Surfer may appear in the installment, as one of Thor’s primary adversaries. Theoretically, if this turns out to be true, the Silver Surfer would be a gateway to both the Fantastic Four and Galactus.
Since the Silver Surfer is a herald for Galactus (the devourer of worlds) and a man with a narrative deeply connected to the Fantastic Four, this fallout of events could introduce the Fantastic Four at the end of Phase 4, before any X-Men appear (especially if the first X-Men appearance is slated for Black Panther 2).

Storm may be the first mutant in the MCU, appearing in ‘Black Panther 2’
Insider reports suggest that Storm may be the first mutant to join the MCU as T’Challa’s love interest in Black Panther 2. Such a story would align with comic book canon, as the two go on to boast a whirlwind romance, leading to marriage and ending in divorce.

To separate its X-Men illustration from Fox’s former franchise, Feige may choose to highlight different members and/or a different leader. Storm does become headmaster of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters in the comics. Meaning, the MCU could be planning to start its mutant narrative at a later point in time — when Storm is in charge, leading to a different group of X-Men defining mutantkind under Disney’s umbrella.
If Storm appears after the Silver Surfer (sometime in Phase 5), it’s likely that the X-Men will make an appearance following the Fantastic Four. However, there is a scenario in which both groups join the landscape together.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ could introduce both Professor X and Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic)
According to reports from Marvel Insider Mikey Sutton, Doctor Strange may begin to form The Illuminati in Multiverse of Madness. The Illuminati is a highly intelligent and skilled team prepped to combat certain threats the Avengers are not best suited to handle. As for two of its pivotal members — Professor X and Mr. Fantastic.
While their appearance would likely come towards the end of the movie— or in a post-credits scene — fans could receive their introduction to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as early as mid-Phase 4 when Doctor Strange 2 finally hits theaters.
