RITA Ora is known around the world as an all-around superstar.

But now another member of her family has also stepped into the limelight – her mum, Vera.

Who is Rita Ora's mum Vera?

Vera Sahatçiu is a psychiatrist who lives in London but is an Albanian who was living in Kosovo when her famous daughter was born.

She is married to her husband Besnik and has three children – Elena, Rita and Don.

Vera and her family left Kosovo for political reasons, because of the persecution of Albanians initiated with the disintegration of Yugoslavia.

They relocated to London in 1991, when Rita was a year old and the family settled in Notting Hill.

In March 2020, Vera returned to the NHS frontline to support A&E doctors during the coronavirus pandemic.

She said in an Instagram video: "My name is Vera Ora and I'm a psychiatrist.

"I'm going back to work tomorrow – I work with mental health patients, however, due to the pressure on the NHS I will be asked to go to the front line to help with A&E and other departments.

"It's a very dangerous time and not everyone is being safe and staying at home and we are becoming overwhelmed with patients coming through and putting everyone at risk."

When did Vera have breast cancer?

Vera underwent a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, aged 39.

Speaking about the ordeal she said: "The whole family is still left with the anxieties that cancer ingrains. Rita gets anxious and sometimes has panic attacks."

She added: "(At the time) Rita rebelled a little, bunking off school for a couple of weeks. It was her mental escape."

What is Vera's swimwear range?

In February 2019, it was revealed that Vera is the face of a post-mastectomy swimwear range.

The collection has been designed by Melissa Odabash for the brand Amoena and launched by breast cancer charity Future Dreams.

She told Hello! why she chose to front the campaign: "It was difficult to hide my (mastectomy) scars on holiday

"I felt self-conscious and would try to cover up or sew fabric into my swimming tops. But then I discovered the Amoena range, which is designed especially for women like me.

"It's so soft and figure-flattering and makes you feel wonderful."

What has Rita Ora said about her mum?

In April 2022, Rita was moved to tears talking about her mother’s breast cancer battle on The Voice Australia.

She said: "It was really weird to see your mum, like, not be the superhero that you always think your mum is going to be … Because you never think your parents are going to sort of, like, break down in front of you, you know what I mean?"
