Jeremy Vine’s co-presenter Storm Huntley blasted John McEnroe on today’s show as she discussed his comments on Emma Raducanu with panellists Iain Dale and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. She accused him of “externalising” his negative emotions during his tennis days while praising Emma Raducanu for “internalising” the pressure she felt and not taking it out on anyone else.
Iain and Yasmin highlighted John was famously known for his temper tantrums and bad behaviour on the court.
“But he won his matches,” Jeremy agreed. “That’s how he sees it.”
“I think he meant what he said to be kind but he needed to look in the mirror first,” Storm quipped.
“If Emma had screamed at everyone and externalised her feelings instead of being a decent human being and internalising them.”
