Trailer for Tiny Beautiful Things on Hulu
Tiny Beautiful Things has just arrived on Hulu and Disney Plus and it follows a down-and-out writer. Clare Kincade (played by Kathryn Hahn) is struggling to keep her marriage and her relationship with her daughter together. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about what inspired the series.
Is Tiny Beautiful Things based on a true story?
As viewers will see, Clare is a floundering writer who takes on the job of an advice columnist.
However, as her own life is falling apart, she feels like a fraud telling people how to live their own lives.
At the start of the series, Clare was struggling to keep her marriage with her husband Danny (Quentin Plair) afloat.
She was also being pushed away by her daughter and felt she had finally hit rock bottom.
Through her new advice column, she formed a salve not just for her readers, but for herself.
Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar is a book by American author Cheryl Strayed.
The book includes a collection of essays from her Dear Sugar advice column, which she wrote anonymously.
The column was published as part of The Rumpus, an online literary magazine.
The author took over the column, under the pseudonym Sugar, in March 2010.

It was created and previously written by her friend, Steve Almond.
She wrote for the column without payment until it came to an end in 2012.
As Sugar, she responded to anonymous questions while drawing on her own life experiences in her letters.
She made the decision to share everything in raw detail, both the good and the bad times in her life.

In February 2012, Strayed revealed her true identity as Sugar, the persona who had helped thousands of devoted followers.
Breaking the news in San Francisco, she received a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd at the Verdi Club.
Once she started writing sincere responses, the reaction was overwhelming and her followers continued to grow.
One column, ‘Tiny Beautiful Things,’ got 75,000 hits in its first week, with Dear Sugar having more than 8,000 Twitter followers.
Her friend Almond spoke out about her work, telling those at the event in San Francisco: “People are desperately lonely, especially those who haunt the internet.
“They feel alone with their unbearable emotions and almost freakish in that solitude.
“I think Cheryl ministers to them. I know that sounds kind of heavy, but it’s true.
“She listens to people’s darkest secrets and refuses to turn away.”
