This Morning’s Alison and Dermot lined up ‘to replace Holly and Phil’ as hosts

This Morning's Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary could be set to replace Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield as the show's main presenters.

Alison and Dermot have been a hit with the show's fans since they joined the programme back in January of this year as Friday presenters.

The pair replaced This Morning legends Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes during a diversity push by ITV bosses.

At the time, Heart reported that Alison said: "I never dreamt that when I first joined This Morning, initially for a few months, that I would still be there 19 years later.

"I genuinely care about the show and the viewers who watch, so it’s a huge privilege and honour to be hosting a show I adore so much. I’m just really excited to be doing even more of what I love alongside the lovely Dermot."

Dermot, meanwhile, said that he was 'deeply thrilled' and 'honoured' to be taking on the role.

He said: "I'm deeply thrilled and honoured to be joining the This Morning team next year. We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware what a privilege it is to be stepping into them."

Despite there not being any plans for Holly and Phil to leave, it seems that bosses may be keeping an eye on potential successors.

A source told The Sun: "There are no firm plans to replace the hosts but producers always keep an eye on potential heirs.

"Alison and Dermot will have been scrutinised during their week-long stint to see how This Morning would look if they took over full-time.

"And the verdict was very favourable. They are very much viewed as a breath of fresh air and have had a largely positive response from viewers."

Dermot, 48, and Alison, 46 presented the programme every day last week rather than their usual Friday as they replaced Holly and Phil while they took a break from work.

Alison has been especially popular with viewers as she was among the nominees in the TV Presenter category at the National Television Awards this year.

Phil and Holly are both experienced when it comes to presenting the programme as Holly has been a part of it since 2009 and Phil has presented the show for two decades.
