However, regular hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield failed to appear on the ITV daytime show.

Fans rushed to their keyboards as the spotted the pair were "missing" from the show.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Holly and Phil work less than me and I'm long-term unemployed."

Another moaned: "Oh course Holly and Phillip are on an extended Christmas holiday."

A third person posted: "Holly and Phil still on holiday?! While the rest of the hardworking folk of this country are forced back to work today. Total disgrace. Get more holidays than teachers those two!"

While a fourth social media user said: "Phil and Holly still aren’t back from their Christmas break? How many weeks off do they need? I wish I had that long off. I was lucky to get a bank holiday off!"

However, some viewers were delighted to see Alison and Dermot back on their screens on Tuesday morning.

One fan tweeted: Yay! Alison & Dermot."

A second person wrote: "It's Alison and Dermot. Yes."

While a third viewer said: "So glad to see Alison and Dermot"

"Yes Alison and Dermot are back on duty today," another excited fan wrote on Twitter.

Fans of the ITV daytime show were expecting to see Holly and Phillip back at the helm on Tuesday.

The presenting duo haven't been seen live on the show since December 17.

They also made an appearance on This Morning's Christmas Day special, which had been pre-recorded.
