The bosses of AMC’s post-apocalyptic horror series recently announced the upcoming episodic anthology series. Instead of being excited, the majority of The Walking Dead fans were surprisingly pleading with the network to put a stop to the growing franchise.

As The Walking Dead comes to a close with its 11th and final season, AMC announced a new anthology spin-off series, Tales of The Walking Dead.

Surprisingly, a majority of fans were not pleased with the idea of an addition to the franchise and took to social media to express their frustration.

Cara wrote: “Tales of The Walking Dead seems like it could be interesting if they focus on older characters, I just don’t know how much I’ll be able to bring myself to care about new characters lol.”

Whereas, Chloe pleaded: “I’m once again begging AMC to let this show die.”

Another hopeful fan tweeted: “I hope it is better than World Beyond because that show sucks, I only watch in hopes of Rick news.”

Tyrese shared: “I’m tired WTF we don’t need all these versions.

“They beat the dead horse so bad that it’s literally a zombie now,” stated Edward.

Kristen fumed: “All we asked for was Rick Grimes movies but they keep throwing these TV spin-offs at us.”

According to Variety, Tales of The Walking Dead will be set within the world of The Walking Dead and will feature both new and existing characters.

With six episodes in the first season, AMC COO Ed Carroll claimed the new show would serve as a “test kitchen.”

This means if an episode does well, it could lead to the production of another spin-off series.

News of its development was first announced in September 2020, when bosses also shared fan-favourites Carol Peletier (played by Melissa McBride) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) would receive their own spin-off.

Tales of The Walking Dead is set to be joining The Walking Dead, Fear of The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Carol & Daryl’s spin-off in the AMC franchise.

Dan McDermott, President of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios stated: “We see so much potential for a wide range of rich and compelling storytelling in this world.

“The episodic anthology format of ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’ will give us the flexibility to entertain existing fans and also offer an entry point for new viewers, especially on streaming platforms,” he explained.

“We have seen the appeal of this format in television classics like ‘The Twilight Zone’ and, more recently, ‘Black Mirror,’ and are excited to engage with fans in this new way, against the backdrop of this very unique and engrossing world,” Dan concluded.

Despite this, other fans slammed the negative tweets and shared their excitement for Tales of The Walking Dead.

One tweeted: “All these people commenting forget that people still watch this show for entertainment. Don’t like it?

Don’t watch. Stop being salty and ruining it for others.”

Irina wrote: “As long as original characters are back, awesome.”

“Yes, Anthology is the way to go, one and done episodes,” stated Brian.

The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC.
