The Chase star Paul Sinha 'doesn't want to be Bradley Walsh' on new quiz show

The Chase star Paul Sinha has admitted he doesn’t simply want to imitate Bradley Walsh when he hosts his new TV show, as he would rather ‘bring something different’ to the table.

Last year, it emerged that Paul, 50, would be fronting his own quiz show for ITV, having been a Chaser on The Chase for the past nine years.

The new programme, titled Paul Sinha’s TV Showdown, will see the quizzer and comedian invite two celebrity teams to take part in a TV trivia quiz, alongside team captains Fay Ripley and Rob Beckett.

Ahead of the launch of the series, Paul was asked whether he reached out to The Chase presenter Bradley for any advice before he began filming.

‘Not really. And in many ways, I’m kind of glad,’ said The Sinnerman, as he is known on The Chase.

‘Bradley is the absolute king. I think it’s very important to try and forge your own path.’

Speaking to Radio Times, Paul said that ‘sometimes if you’re trying to be somebody else’, you may find that ‘you end up saying words that just don’t sound like your voice’.

‘And for better or worse, I want to be Paul Sinha, I don’t want to be Bradley Walsh,’ he stated.

‘Bradley Walsh is the king of what he does because he’s Bradley Walsh.’

Paul added that ‘hopefully’ he’ll be able to ‘bring something slightly different’ when viewers watch him as the host of TV Showdown.

‘I think you can be inspired by the best, but if you try to imitate the best, you might end up falling disappointedly short,’ he remarked.

Earlier this week, Paul addressed a controversial moment that occurred on The Chase spin-off show Beat The Chasers, when fellow Chaser Jenny Ryan appeared to punch him in frustration after he answered a Star Wars question incorrectly.

‘Because we make mistakes. Jenny was right to be angry,’ he tweeted.

Describing the punch as ‘nothing’, Paul said it simply a case of ‘two grown adults glaring at each other unaware that Bradley was asking us a question [sic]’.

‘That was the shameful/p**s funny bit. Incidentally a lot else happened in the episode,’ he wrote.

Paul Sinha’s TV Showdown airs tonight at 10pm on ITV.
