Succession returned to Sky and HBO for a third season, with the finale scheduled to air tonight (December 12). The latest instalment has included plenty of dark twists, teasing the death of fan-favourite, Kendall Roy (played by Jeremy Strong). has all you need to know about whether there will be a fourth season.

Will there be a season 4 of Succession?

Fans will be pleased to hear the drama was renewed for a fourth instalment back in October 2021.

However, the news came as bitter-sweet as the creators hinted the show would not go beyond the fourth season.

With this in mind, the upcoming season may be the show’s last, saying goodbye to the Roy family for good.

Speaking to The Times, executive producer Georgia Pritchett previously said: “I think the maximum would be five seasons, but possibly more like four.

“We’re at the end of filming season three, so at this point Jesse is saying only one more. But that happens every time. We’ve got a good end in sight.”

When will Succession season 4 be released?

As for when season four will be released, no official date has been given yet.

Of course, it is early days as season three is only just coming to an end, but the wheels are already in motion.

So far there has been no pattern when it comes to release dates, with season one airing in June, two in August and three in October.

However, there is usually a year’s gap between seasons, so fans may be looking at a December 2022 release date.

More information should come to light as the new year begins.

What will happen in Succession season 4?

At this moment in time, it is too early to predict what the Roy family may put themselves through.

However, if season four is to be the final instalment, it is safe to say it will be the most dramatic yet.

The series may go as far as killing off patriarch Logan (Brian Cox) as his role comes to an end.

Meanwhile, his successor will be identified once and for all, with the future of the family’s company revealed.

Hopefully, the characters’ story arcs will come to a satisfying end.

Who will be in the cast of Succession season 4?

The cast list for season four is dependant on who makes it through the season three finale alive.

All being well, all of the main cast making up the Roy family should return in some capacity.

For season three, the series welcomed some recurring characters so the same could be said for season four.

Alexander Skarsgård was cast as Lukas Matsson, with Adrien Brody joining as Josh Aaronson.

Fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts as to what could happen in season four.

Otter Nonsense said: “Killing off Kendall will show us an entirely different side to Logan in Season 4.

“Assuming the writers are willing to let Logan be capable of guilt and grief. Might give us a very interesting development in his character.”

Katherine Harrison said: “Initially was in total shock at the idea Kendall might be dead, but looking back at the rest of this season, it’s the only thing that makes narrative sense. Could this be the catalyst for the Roys’ breakdown in Season 4? #succession”

Sizable Gayle added: “We need to get my King Greg a better storyline for Season 4, because the writers don’t know what to do with him right now. #Succession”
