Strictly Come Dancing pros – and real-life couple – Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec have become TV royalty since taking to the BBC’s famous dance floor eight years ago.
And now they’ve revealed that the show has been given the royal seal of approval, too – as Prince William told them that he is a big fan of the much-loved series.
During OK!’s exclusive interview, Janette, 37, and Aljaž, 31, recalled meeting the Duke of Cambridge at a charity event when asked who was the most famous person to tell them that they loved the show.
Aljaž explained: “That was really cool. We performed at a beautiful charity event in Kensington Palace and met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”
He continued: “It was so surreal when they said they watched the show.”
Janette also couldn't believe that the Royals knew who they were. She laughed: "He said to me, 'I hear you're quite the task master, Janette!' So we know the Royals enjoy watching the show."
Meanwhile, Janette also shared that Strictly has gained yet another VIP fan in pop royalty Lady Gaga.
Explaining that the singer was in the BBC studios to perform one of her tracks, Janette continued that she couldn’t help but get swept up in the magic of the show as she watched the professional dancers perform.
Janette said: “Lady Gaga also came to Strictly once to perform and she watched the rehearsal in her dressing room and said, 'Oh my God, you guys are all amazing!'"
Elsewhere in our chat, Janette and Aljaž, who have been married for four years but together for nearly a decade, revealed their excitement ahead of the brand new series hitting our screens.
However, they also acknowledged that it will feel slightly different this time around as Janette won’t be joining Aljaž on the dance floor as she’s embarking on an exciting new chapter as the host of sister show It Takes Two.
Aljaž teased: “Like always, Strictly’s going to be bigger and better.”
He added: “But it’s also going to be slightly different for me this year as I’m not going to be able to dance with my wife. I’m definitely going to miss that.”
Janette continued that it’s also starting to hit her now that the rest of the professionals have started rehearsals.
She confessed: “I’ve been doing television since I was 12, but the best of the best has to be Strictly Come Dancing. I’m really, really going to miss it.”
“But I’m always going to dance – it’s too much a part of who I am to not do it anymore. So I’ll dance in theatres and on television in some capacity.
