Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood to undergo second hip operation

Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood is to have a second hip replacement after experiencing agony “on a daily basis”.

The former dancer, 52, underwent the first operation in 2013 – and is having the other one replaced this week.

Australia-born Craig delayed having surgery until he returned from a P&O Strictly Come Dancing-themed cruise around the Mediterranean last week.

He has put off the op since the joint flared up last summer because he had work commitments and did not want to risk missing Strictly.

“It’s just uncomfortable at the moment,” he said at the time. “It’s got worse. Some days I limp, but some days I’m fine.”

Craig had the first hip replacement after visiting a sports injury specialist in excruciating pain thinking he had torn a ligament.

An X-ray and MRI scan revealed he had severe osteoarthritis and needed the operation.

The star had the titanium hip fitted at a private hospital in London and recovered in a wheelchair before moving on to crutches.

He said: “It’s all those years of can-cans and dropping the splits. Classical ballet can be quite detrimental to your body.”

He added he has a family history of arthritis and osteoporosis.

A spokesman for Craig said: “He is indeed having his second hip replacement operation this week.”
