Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has been speaking about her fears for Chas Dingle ahead of the soap’s 50th anniversary.
After making the decision to put her beloved pub up for auction, Chas will say goodbye to the business forever as a new owner will be confirmed by the end of the week.
With Chas and Marlon’s (Mark Charnock) careers up in the air, Lucy Pargeter is apprehensive when it comes to Chas’ future, given the huge and explosive storylines promised for the soap’s anniversary in October.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ‘It’s always unnerving when we’ve got big storylines coming up, or events like the 50th anniversary this year. I immediately think, “Oh God, they’re going to have to do something big for the 50th. Do they need to kill off a long-standing character in a spectacular way? Is that my exit?”.’
‘It’s bizarre. It’s fictional, I don’t really own a pub, but that bar is like my second home and when I found out I no longer owned it, my heart sank’, Lucy added as she revealed her reaction when discovering Chas would no longer own the iconic boozer.
‘It was upsetting and unsettling, not only for my character, but for me
too. I wondered, “well, what’s my role in the village now? What else can I do?”. It was gutting and made me feel even more insecure about my job.’
We’ll just have to wait and see what the future hold for Chas Dingle. Will she be involved in the anniversary and just how dramatic will the episodes be?
Emmerdale boss Jane Hudson recently teased us with what’s to come:
‘We’re going to be having a golden month of celebration to mark our 50th. There are going to be mind blowing stunts, more heartbreaks, secrets and lies are revealed, it’s going to be the gift that keeps on giving and the party no one wants to end.
‘Our 2022 is very much going to be building our stories for the 50th golden month of celebrations.’
