Solo: A Star Wars Story is praised in first reviews: 'This is a REAL Star Wars movie'

Deep breaths, everyone – the time has come to find out whether Solo: A Star Wars Story was a stroke of genius or the unwelcome result of Star Wars mania.

Last night (May 10) was the world premiere of the highly somewhat-anticipated Solo spin-off, which as well as coming out mere months after The Last Jedi, has been plagued with on-set hiccups.

So, is Solo‘s only saving grace Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian? Just how good is Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo impression? And how obvious will Lord and Miller’s departure be?

Well, it turns out we needn’t have worried about all of that, because the first reviews for Solo: A Star Wars Story are out, and it seems the franchise has welcomed its most “fun” entry yet.

“#Solo feels surprisingly unlike any Star Wars movie before, yet perfectly captures the tone, adventure, characters and humor of the #StarWars franchise,” one early review read.

Suggesting that “charming” might be Solo‘s buzzword, one agreed: “Charming cast, fun action, good jokes, good fan service but still does its own thing. #StarWars will be fine.”

Another said: “#Solo is a ton of fun! Alden Ehrenreich is full of charm and definitely does right by Harrison Ford. Not to mention Donald Glover, who’s equally great as Lando.”

Despite a few grumbles about Solo taking a while “to find its feet” and a potentially bloated third act, it seems Star Wars fans have absolutely nothing to worry about.

“This is a REAL Star Wars movie,” one viewer insists.

Thank god for that.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released in cinemas on May 24 in the UK and May 25 in the US. Book tickets now.
