NCIS will return for its most intense episode yet, seeing Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) testify in court. CBS just released a new promo for the episode, giving fans a glimpse of what is coming. But is Gibbs about to get fired?

Will Gibbs get fired in NCIS?

NCIS is nearing the end of its 18th season, with Gibbs facing pressures in the job like never before.

In tonight’s (May 4) upcoming episode titled Misconduct, the team is going after a biker gang and Gibbs is in court.

The official synopsis reads: “While the team investigates a biker killed in a hit and run, Gibbs prepares to testify against a financial advisor who stole millions from his Navy clients.”

In the promo for the new episode, which only gives fans a few tantalising seconds of the upcoming episode, Gibbs is coming under fire for his actions.

In the clip, he is speaking to Leon Vance (Rocky Caroll) about what he has done and more importantly, what he plans to do.

The promo begins with Vance telling Gibbs: “If you do this, there is no looking back.”

Gibbs replies: “Yeah, I’m sorry, I am.”

Vince finally says: “You career at NCIS could very well be over.”

Currently, it is unclear what Gibbs is planning to do to lead him to this difficult decision for his career, but he looks to be going against the NCIS’ wishes.

Recently in the season, Gibbs was suspended for beating a man he suspected of running an illegal dog-fighting ring.

The events of the episode will see him go against the NCIS once more.

The show is gearing up for the end of its 18th season, with a shorter than usual 16 episode run.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this season has been cut short, following on from season 17’s 20 episode run.

Usually, the show would receive a full season order of 24 episodes.

The show was renewed for season 19 last month, though details on the new season or its release date remain unknown.

CBS did confirm Mark Harmon would be returning to lead as Gibbs once more though, following rumours the actor was looking to leave the show.

The news also came coupled with the announcement of a new spin-off series NCIS: Hawaii, which will feature the series first female lead, Vanessa Lachey as Jane Tennent.

NCIS will likely return early next year, with filming possibly starting this summer, matching the schedule for previous seasons.

It is not yet known when the new spin-off will release, though it may drop in summer 2022.

NCIS is available to watch on weekly on CBS.
