The first five episodes of Money Heist’s epic conclusion are almost upon us. As the countdown to season five of the Spanish phenomenon hitting Netflix continues, a recently revealed trailer has provided a fresh new look at Berlin (played by Pedro Alonso) and newcomer Rafael (Patrick Criado).

Berlin’s complicated past will be explored much more in flashbacks during the fifth and final instalment of Netflix’s international hit, Money Heist.

With the release of a new clip from the next season, fans are convinced Berlin’s relationship with his son, Rafael, is much darker than originally assumed.

The new teaser has provided the first look at the show’s late addition to the cast, Patrick Criado, confirmed to be portraying the late jewelry thief’s adult son.

Right-hand man and half-brother to the criminal mastermind known as the Professor (Álvaro Morte), Berlin sacrificed himself to save the rest of the crew in the Royal Mint.

However, as the series progressed, more about Berlin’s past has been revealed through flashbacks, including brief glimpses at his ex-wife, Tatiana (Diana Gómez).

Given the age of Criado, 31, and the events of the flashback, it’s assumed Rafael is Berlin’s son from a previous relationship.

Even so, new theories have claimed Rafael and Tatiana are more involved than one might suspect.

One fan recently took to Reddit to propose Berlin’s son and ex-wife could have had an affair at some point before the main events of the series.

User oncea_twice speculated: “I think that the new character to be played by Patrick Criado, Rafael, is Tatiana’s other man.”

Throughout the events of the series, Berlin has revealed he has gone through a whopping five divorces leading up to the heist in the Royal Mint.

This fan suggested his last marriage, presumably to Tatiana, could have fallen apart once he got wind of his own son’s scandalous affair.

They continued: “Tatiana is Berlin’s last wife and there is no other reason for a man to not fall in love other than being cheated by the lady.”

As Diana Gómez, 32, is just a year older than Patrick Criado, this would put their Money Heist characters at roughly the same age.

Alonso, meanwhile, has just turned 50, so it’s easy to imagine Berlin’s younger wife falling for his more age-appropriate son.

The Reddit post hinted their affair could have started when the team were in Denmark, and claimed a number of set photos supported their theory.

“Lots of pictures of spoilers on the internet have already [been] published,” they said. “And we can see Criado’s character together with Berlin and Tatiana all the time.”

However, these suggested plot details will remain hearsay and rumours until the series is actually released.

Other fans argued Berlin wouldn’t need an affair to break down his marriage, especially considering he had already been divorced four times before meeting Tatiana.

Then again, Tatiana is still rumoured to have a major role in the last ten episodes, so Berlin could once again be at the centre of one of Money Heist’s signature twists for the final season.

Money Heist Part 5: Volume 1 will be released on Friday, September 3 on Netflix. Volume 2 is coming Friday, December 3.
