Locke & Key fans are eagerly counting down the days until season 2. The Netflix series debuted a new full-length trailer on Oct. 6, showing off what looks to be an action-packed installment of the comic book adaptation. Additionally, showrunner Meredith Averill has offered an idea of what viewers can expect to see in Locke & Key Season 2.
A new trailer teased a possible death in ‘Locke & Key’ Season 2
The full Locke & Key Season 2 trailer, seen below, opens with Nina Locke (played by Darby Stanchfield) speaking to a support group of some kind. She explains that she moved her three kids to Matheson to live in her late husband’s ancestral home, Keyhouse, where the kids seemed happy until strange events started occurring. In another scene, Nina asks Kinsey Locke (Emilia Jones) if she would tell her mother if anything was going on.
The trailer also teases the aftermath of the Locke kids thinking they rid themselves of the Keyhouse’s demon, Dodge (Laysla Oliveira). Little do they know that Dodge has been posing as Kinsey’s boyfriend, Gabe (Griffin Gluck). In Gabe’s body, Dodge and a possessed Eden (Hallea Jones) forge a new key, which fans saw in a previous Locke & Key teaser.
A few scenes in the trailer will likely pique fans’ interest: a sharp-toothed creature, an explosion, and a horde of mysterious bald figures attacking the Lockes and their friends. Additionally, Gabe orders someone to “kill her,” seemingly referring to Kinsey, and Tyler seems in danger.
As Deadline reported, the Locke & Key Season 2 trailer also features a new character. The Swamp Thing actor Kevin Durand plays Frederick Gideon, “a ruthless, charismatic, and cunning British Revolutionary War Captain, who becomes a dangerous adversary for the Locke Family.”
‘Locke & Ley’ Season 2 features a time jump
At the end of season 1, Kinsey, Tyler Locke (Connor Jessup), Bode Locke (Jackson Robert Scott), and their friends took Dodge to the Black Door in the caves. They opened the door, which unleashed magical shards that hit Eden. The kids tossed Dodge through the door without knowing that “Dodge” was actually Ellie (Sherri Saum), and the real Dodge portrayed herself as Gabe.
Averill told SFX magazine that Locke & Key Season 2 takes place months after season 1, as GamesRadar reported.
“Going into season two, they are learning they still have a lot of wrongs from the past that they need to set right again, things that happened with their father when he was their age, and that there were things that happened centuries before that need to be righted,” Averill said. “It’s all on them now. They are feeling this tremendous weight of that responsibility. We will get to see how they succeed and how they fail to right those wrongs.”
Meredith Averill says there will be ‘tension’ in season 2
Averill added that season 2 would cause “tension” for the audience as Kinsey unknowingly grows closer to Dodge.
“She and the rest of the Lockes have been unaware that the demon they believe that they vanquished has actually been under their nose this whole time,” Averill continued. “We will be wondering when and how they might figure it out and how much damage might be done before they do.”
Meanwhile, Dodge will continue her plan to “rule the world.” She sets out to make a new key, but audiences won’t know what she’ll do with it yet.
“She never wants to answer to anyone else. Dodge is sick of having to deal with the Lockes and trying to gather up their keys. We will discover by the end of the first episode that Dodge’s plan is to make her own key. We play a little bit of a mystery with what Dodge intends for that key to do,” Averill said.
Locke & Key Season 2 premieres on Netflix on Oct. 22.
