Strictly Come Dancing has officially returned as week one of the BBC competition hit the screens last Saturday. The celebrity contestants and professional partners hit the dance floor, dazzlings viewers with their outfits. Professional Katya Jones revealed just how their wardrobe remains sustainable every week.
On Thursday’s episode of Lorraine, the presenter was joined by Katya and Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty to discuss their upcoming routine.
During the interview, it was revealed the costumes worn by contestants get recycled every week.
Katya explained: “I’m very much into sustainability, reusing, reducing and recycling and the wardrobe, they’re just phenomenal.”
“People don’t notice but actually if you paid attention you could see how they upgrade one dress into another one,” she added.
Speaking on sustainability, Katya said: “It was really nice and for me, I felt really good about wearing something that’s already been used but in a different way with style and it’s also good for the environment as well, which I’m here for.”
Adam and his professional dance partner made the Strictly debut last weekend as they performed the Cha Cha Cha.
The routine proved to be a success as they gained the second spot on the leaderboard with a score of 30, which placed them under AJ Odudu and her partner Kai Widdrington.
Adam was confirmed to be one of the 15 celebrities on Strictly after he dominated at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
After taking to the dance floor and surprising viewers with a successful routine, the pair received praise from the judges.
Craig Revel Horton, who is usually hard to please, admitted he couldn’t look away as he was ”glued to every inch of movement”.
Motisi revealed: “I fell in love with some of those movements. You have such a refreshing energy and charisma.“
She added: “Oh my word, I can’t wait for the next sixteen weeks!”
During the performance things almost took a turn for the worse when Katya nearly slipped as she went to do a risky move.
If successful the move would’ve seen Adam’s leg in the air with her twirled under him.
Head judge Shirley Ballas commented on the risky move and said: “She slipped a little bit but you know what? You saved it,” she remarked. “True professionalism.”
Adam and Katya are set to perform the quickstep on the upcoming episode of Strictly and during Lorraine they opened up about the challenges.
“We had two weeks to prepare for the Cha Cha Cha and going to the quickstep now, my head is everywhere and my feet are everywhere,” confessed Adam.
Katya explained: “For celebrities, going from two weeks rehearsing and absolutely nailing it, being on such a high after it – now realising there’s only three days to get the new routine, a completely new style is quite overwhelming.”
With this new insight about the show recycling outfits and creating a new style, fans will have to tune in to see, if they’ll notice the upgrade.
This week the competition will get serious as the scores from last week will carry over with the possibility for elimination.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 7pm. Lorraine airs on ITV on weekdays at 9am.
