She's widely considered to be one of the best British ballerinas of all time, starring in lead roles with the Royal Ballet for the whole of her career.

She may have retired from ballet, but she has kept herself busy with numerous TV appearances, modelling gigs and book releases.

Darcey worked as a ballerina until she announced her retirement as a principal ballerina in 2006, and from ballet entirely in 2007.
At the height of her dancing career she worked for the Royal Ballet, starring in 80 different roles and had 17 roles created for her.
Her exceptional talent was discovered at an early age when she was training at the Royal Ballet School, and she became a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet when she was just 20 years old.
In the 2012 Summer Olympic closing ceremony, she led a dancing troupe of 200 ballerinas and four male dancers from the Royal Ballet.
How did Darcey Bussell start working on TV?
Darcey first hit the big screen back in 1992, when she was the subject of a documentary alongside fellow principal Viviana Durante.
She had her first acting role in 1994 in Yo Picasso, and then starred in the Vicar of Dibley in 1998 playing a fundraiser.
In 2011, she worked on a BBC Two documentary called Darcey dances Hollywood, where she recreated some of Hollywood’s most famous dance routines from the likes of Gene Kelly.

Darcey joined the glitzy world of Strictly back in 2009 working as a fifth judge in the final stages of the competition.
She even debuted her own dancing talents on the show, performing a jive with professional dancer Ian White in the semi-final.
She made her return in 2012, replacing judge Alesha Dixon, and has been on the critiquing panel ever since.
On April 10, 2019 Darcy revealed she had quit the show.
The dancer reassured fans that she was leaving to "give more focus to my many other commitments in dance" and not "because of any upset or disagreement at all."
Who's Darcey Bussell's husband?
Darcey is married to Australian businessman Angus Forbes. He's the co founder of a privately owned global funds management organisation based in Sydney.
Darcey and Angus married in Cherwell, Oxfordshire, in 1997.
After tying the knot, the couple lived in Kensington, where their two daughters were born in 2001 and 2004.
In 2008 the family moved to Sydney, Australia and returned to London in July 2012.
