Hollyoaks Chen-Williams family – Tom Hardy link, hunky snaps and rival soaps

The Chen-Williams family are left shaken in Hollyoaks this week, after heartbreaking news about daughter Serena's recovery from an accident is revealed.

What will this mean for Serena? And how will the news impact the Chen-Williams family?

Since joining the soap last year, the Chen-Williams family have become a major part of village life – with dad Dave's sinister link to villain Ethan Williams coming to light in recent months.

However away from Hollyoaks, the stars who play the Chen-Williams family have led less dramatic lives than their onscreen counterparts – but just as interesting.

Here, Daily Star takes a look inside the lives of the Chen-Williams family stars.

Vera Chok (Honour)

Before joining Hollyoaks as Honour Chen-Willams in 2021, actress Vera had a role in another rival soap.

In 2012, Vera starred as Moira Bailey in one episode of ITV soap Coronation Street.

From there she has also had huge success with roles in Hollywood films including The Riot Club, Christopher Robin and The Mummy opposite Tom Cruise, where she played a member of a technical team.

Her work has even led to a link with the Academy Award nominated actor and director Kenneth Brannagh, after she starred in one of his company's theatre productions in 2015.

As part of Branagh Theatre Live: A Winter's Tale, she played the leading role of Dorcas in the Garrick Theatre production.

Away from the soap, Vera has also delighted fans with photographs of her home life – including snaps of her adorable dog Ubi.

The labradoodle is a regular fixture of Vera's Instagram posts, with the actress sharing photographs of him playing with his toys at home and out walking in the park.

Fans have shared the love for Ubi too, with one saying: "Here's the cutie," followed by a heart eye emoji.

A second added: "Such a very beautiful dog," while a third commented: "The dog is so cool."

As well as photos of her gorgeous pooch, Vera has also shared glimpses into her favourite past times, such as camping, and last year posted a photograph of her son dressed up as the Marvel character Shang-Chi on Halloween.

Dominic Power (Dave)

Dominic Power delighted viewers when he arrived in Hollyoaks as doting dad Dave – but fans may have also recognised him from another rival soap.

Long before he played Dave Chen-Williams, Dominic appeared in Emmerdale as killer Cameron Murray from 2011-2015, with the villain also having an affair with Debbie Dingle and cheating on her aunty Chas Dingle.

That's not all though, as he also played Peter for one episode of BBC soap EastEnders in 2000, as well as starring in The Bill, Unforgotten, Doctors and Casualty.

However, he is currently making his mark as another memorable soap character following Dave's hidden link to the villianous Ethan, with Dominic telling Shropshire Star ahead of his debut: "It’s an honour to be part of such an iconic British soap.

“I can’t wait for the Hollyoaks fans to meet Dave."

Away from our screens, Dominic is married to wife Jackie Power, with who he has two children called Gabrielle and Declan.

Matthew James Bailey (Ethan)

Matthew James Bailey has become another Hollyoaks villain, after making his soap debut as the village's resident bad-boy – becoming embroiled in numerous crimes and a sinister plot to kidnap Darren Osborne.

However Matthew may have embarked on a different career path all together, after studying Government and Politics at sixth form college – before considering running for a place at his local community office.

He later made an early career u-turn and decided to study Performing Arts at University instead, later landing roles in TV programmes including Channel 4's Cucumber.

After landing his role as Ethan on Hollyoaks, the actor has since gained a legion of adoring fans on Instagram who regularly go wild for his hunky snaps.

In one photograph, he is looking into the distance in a pair of shorts and white t-shirt, showing off his toned biceps in the process.

Fans couldn't get enough of the photo, with one saying: "Hollyoaks eye candy," while a second added: "It would appear I have a new crush."

Although Matthew shares snaps of his travels to countries including New Zealand on social media, he tends to keep his personal life private.

Emma Lau (Serena)

Emma Lau plays Serena Chen-Williams in Hollyoaks – but viewers may not know that she also appeared in the soap last year as a character called Galaxy.

However, Emma's long acting career began a few years before her soap debut, with the actress appearing in TV series including Moving On, as well as Hollywood films including Artemis Fowl.

She also has a link to actor Tom Hardy too, after appearing in the blockbuster sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage as Reveler in 2021.

Away from Hollyoaks, she has also lent her voice to video games, as well as appearing in film The School For Good and Evil, which is currently in post-production.

She has become a familiar face on our screens in Hollyoaks though, with Emma ruling out a future romance between Serena and Sid in future episodes – despite Serena's crush on him when she arrived.

Emma told Inside Soap: "No, definitely not! Imran is so much better for Serena – at the moment, anyway.

"It's got to the point where Sid is Lizzie's, and I hope that's clear now. There has to be some sisterly loyalty."

Away from Hollyoaks, Emma keeps her personal life away from the limelight and it is not known if she is in a relationship.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
