Here's why Marvel stopped making its short movie One Shots

Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito has explained why we haven’t got any new One Shots in recent years.

From Thor through to Iron Man 3, Marvel fans were treated with an extra short movie that expanded the MCU, but we haven’t had a new One Shot since 2014’s All Hail the King which followed fake Mandarin Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley).

And it seems that the huge success of the MCU movies has been partly to blame for the lack of One Shots since. “We’re just so busy. Disney wants us to do it, we want to do it, and I keep telling them, ‘I’ll do it on the next film’, but I keep breaking my promise,” D’Esposito told EW.

It’s certainly a different reason to the one offered by One Shot writer Eric Pearson, who said last year that he felt the “drop in Blu-ray sales” was what ended the One Shots.

He did tease that he had apparently “heard whispers” of new ones and certainly isn’t short on ideas for more. “I have a whole folder full of other One Shots that I just came up with. And I was like, ‘Oh, this will be a fun eight to twelve pages,” Pearson explained.

Although given the huge success of Avengers: Infinity War, it doesn’t look like Marvel Studios are going to get any less busy anytime soon.
