Richard Bacon teased that he was unaware that GMB was being pulled from the Christmas and New Year schedule after covid fears had caused production to come to a halt.

The TV presenter has taken to social media to express his disappointment after it had been reported that a possible transmission of Covid-19 was exposed in the studio after Sean Fletcher tested positive.

Taking to Twitter, Richard tweeted: "So I guess that means I won't be presenting Good Morning Britain next week (as planned)."

"Shame but makes complete and total sense."

"Hosting this week – unless I get Covid between now and Wednesday – although, at this rate, we'll all have it by then."

An edition of the show will continue to air on Christmas Day.

However, it's a pre-recorded episode and all other episodes during the peak of the festive period have been axed entirely and replaced with an alternative show.

It is the first time the morning news show has been ditched from the schedules in history.

The final pre-Christmas shows will still go ahead.

GMB bosses had issued for the presenters to do their own make-up, as it had been authorised that nobody else will be allowed in the studio.

A spokeswoman from GMB said: "GMB was due to be on air from Weds 29th – Fri 31st December 2021 but due to the pandemic and to protect our teams, we have decided to give them an extended break."

The announcement is the latest in what has been a turbulent year for Good Morning Britain recently.

In recent months, Ex-GMB presenter Piers Morgan made a dramatic exit after refusing to apologise for making controversial comments about Meghan Markle.

Ranvir Singh, Susanna Reid, and Charlotte Hawkins have all appeared alongside a selection of guest presenters, including Adil Ray.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
