Gary Lineker in dig at Richard Madeley after painful GMB interview

Gary Lineker says it’s ‘important’ he uses his platform

Gary Linker appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about his new ITV quiz show Sitting on a Fortune.

However, instead of the conversation being light and exciting, Gary and the viewers were left feeling awkward as Richard Madeley was intent on giving him a grilling.

Being a professional, Gary answered their questions including one about his controversial tweet which got him temporarily removed from Match of the Day.

After Gary’s interview with the GMB presenters, he went on to visit Chris Moyles on his Radio X show and made a dig against Richard.

Introducing him to the show, Chris asked: “How was your day so far?” to which Gary quipped: “Well, it’s been, interesting…little interview with Mr Madeley, remember him?”

Chris laughed and added: “It was a joy to watch, knowing that any second now you’d be going from there to here, or not.

“Or you going, ‘I’m going home now, I don’t need this’, you’ve gone on ITV to talk about your new show on ITV and you get a grilling…”

Gary added: “Well, you know… Richard Partridge Madeley, we know what you’re like… it was fine.”

Adding fuel to the fire and continuing the jibe, Chris said: “Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel is called Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel.

“Are you glad this isn’t called Gary Lineker’s Sitting on a Fortune, …because Madeley would have had a field day!?”

Agreeing, Gary said: “Absolutely, I think I might have spotted that one though.”

During his interview on GMB, Richard asked: “Let’s spin the clock back a bit. I was on Question Time two or three months ago, the week that you were suspended from Match of the Day and actually found myself defending you because you came in for an awful lot of criticism for your comments about Britain’s immigration policy.

“Looking back, I mean, we all say things that we change our minds about… looking back do you think that was a fair comparison

Gary hit back: “Already you’ve misrepresented what I said, and that’s what happened because of the Daily Mail headline.

“I didn’t compare the government to the Nazis, I didn’t talk about the Holocaust, I didn’t do any of that.

“All I said some of the language is not dissimilar to that used back in the 30s in Germany, and there is a substantial difference in that.”
