Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage lines up next project with Rumpelstiltskin movie

With Game of Thronescoming to an end with its eighth and final season, that means we’re going to have to get used to seeing our favourite GoT characters in new roles.

Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, Tyrion Lannister actor Peter Dinklage has signed on for his next role in the form of the upcoming Rumpelstiltskin movie, in which he’ll be portraying the titular character.

The all-important plot details haven’t been released just yet, but it’s thought that the upcoming Sony film adaptation will likely at least partly follow the original Brothers Grimm narrative.

Rumpelstiltskin tells the story of a miller’s daughter seeking help from a mysterious creature. She was threatened with death after her father lied to the king about her talents for spinning straw into gold. Rumpelstiltskin craftily aids the family with his mystical powers, but his true colours eventually surface once he demands the daughter’s first child as payment.

Screenwriter Patrick Ness, known for his work on A Monster Calls, has reportedly been hired to produce the script for the film.

And while we’re still on the subject of Game of Thrones‘ forthcoming final season, Dinklage recently praised the show’s fans for their loyalty.

“Fans are a great resource for material. They know more about it than I do almost. But it’s fun to see them speculate, especially early on when we’re just getting started,” he said.

GoT enthusiasts are notoriously active in theory-spinning, but the actor clearly enjoys this element of fandom; “It’s great, it means everybody’s really engaged in the show.”

Dinklage also shared how he found reading the scripts for next year’s bigconclusion, noting: “It was heartbreaking. And the end of an era.”

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere in 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
