Friday Night Dinner series five is taking us into the dark depths of Martin’s (Paul Ritter) shed.
Tonight’s (May 11) episode sees Jackie’s (Tamsin Grieg) best friend, “Auntie” Val (Tracy-Ann Oberman), move in to the house after rowing with her husband, leading her to clash with Martin as she dares to throw away his old stuff.
In this first-look clip, Val has ventured into Martin’s shed and threatens to get rid of his “good luck meat”, which just happened to go out of date in September 1996. Lovely bit of squirrel.
Last week, viewers very much enjoyed the return of the award-winning sitcom from Big Talk Productions and Popper Pictures, written and produced by Robert Popper, as Jim (Mark Heap) actually attended dinner with the Goodman family, bringing along a date called Jackie.
Unfortunately for Jim, it turned out that his Jackie wasn’t particularly keen on Jewish people, so he had to console himself by going naked into the Goodmans’ new hot tub.
The fifth series will also see Adam accidentally set his car on fire, Jonny go a bit Bart Simpson and constantly prank-call Adam, and Dad become obsessed with his ventriloquist dummy.
Before the show returned, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal told Digital Spy how much they suffer during filming on the show.
“I think it gets worse every year, to be honest,” Bird says. “As we get to know each other better, there’s just no reason to hold back. Now, when we punch each other, it’s full force… so you come away genuinely battered and bruised.”
Friday Night Dinner continues tonight (May 11) at 10pm on Channel 4.
