Who dies in Firefly Lane?

Firefly Lane landed on Netflix in February 2021 and it made its way to the number one position in the streaming platform’s top 10.

Throughout the series, Kate and Tully help each other through personal issues, including Kate’s challenging relationship with her daughter.

In the finale, fans saw Kate and Tully reunited at a funeral, but they were no longer friends.

The series ended before fans came to learn what had happened between them, and they were worried for their future.

They were also suspicious of whose funeral it was, believing Kate’s ex-husband Johnny (Ben Lawson), may have died.

The funeral was actually being held for Bud (Paul McGillion) – Kate’s father who is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

His cause of death is not mentioned, but there was a flashback clue showing Bud having a heart attack in the 1980s.

Season two, if confirmed, will hopefully rewind the story and go into more detail about Bud’s death.

Fans were worried Tully died as she was not present at the funeral scene initially.

When she finally emerges, she is shunned by Kate and fans are yet to learn of what happened.

They had also been worried about Johnny as the war correspondent had been in Iraq when a land mine exploded.

He was last seen laying unconscious with blood over him and his ultimate fate is yet to be revealed.

Thankfully Lawson has suggested his character is still alive as there is unfinished business between Johnny, Kate and Tully.

The trio is caught up in a love triangle and Johnny must return home in order to settle the score.

For those who have already read the book, they will understand the fates of all the characters.

If season two is given the go-ahead it may reveal what happens to Kate at the end of the book.

In the book, Kate ends up dying from breast cancer shortly after settling her differences with Tully.

Tully went to visit her friend in hospital shortly before she died, and Kate told her not to regret anything they had been through.

Her death inspired the sequel book, Fly Away, which follows Tully as she comes to terms with the loss.

Season two will definitely be an emotional rollercoaster for fans.

They have taken to Twitter to discuss the season one finale, with one saying: “I’m watching Firefly Lane which is my favourite book ever and I’m already crying bc I know the ending and I’m 20 minutes into the first episode. [sic]”

Another said: “Gonna need Firefly Lane season two ASAP! The ending makes me stand on my toes! [sic]”

Others said they were left “broken” following the tragic final episode which saw Kate and Tully end on bad terms.

For those who have read the book, they will know Kate and Tully had a huge row live on air as part of Tully’s daytime show.

She had been trying to help Kate and her daughter rekindle their relationship, but things were said which set Kate off and it destroyed their friendship.
