Chas Dingle (played by Lucy Pargeter) was confronted by her husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) in Monday’s instalment of Emmerdale about her treatment of Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele). Fans of the ITV soap will know the landlady recently cut ties with Liv, who has been wrongly accused of murdering Ben Tucker ). If Paddy believes Liv is innocent and Chas is convinced she’s guilty, will their differences in opinion force them to part ways?

Emmerdale killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) was responsible for Ben’s death in recent months, but Liv has been wrongly accused of murdering him.

In a bitter outburst, Chas warned Liv not to bother the Dingles anymore and made it clear she had lost their support.

However, in Monday’s episode, Paddy raised the possibility Liv could be innocent of the crime she’s been charged with.

Chas told Paddy: “[Liv] is desperate because she knows she’s not coming out any time soon, it’s going to take a bit more than a few fake memories before the police drop the charges.”

However, Paddy replied: “But what if it was a real memory and something came back to her?”

Chas erupted at her husband: “She killed a man Paddy whether she remembers it or not. It had to be her, she was off her face and had motive and opportunity.”

Paddy added: “That’s what the police told us without a shred of evidence to back it up.”

Chas scoffed at Paddy and told him it was “obvious” Liv was responsible for Ben’s tragic death.

But Paddy was not going to go down without a fight and told Chas: “No, it’s obvious she’s troubled and she’s got a drinking problem, and she fell out with Aaron’s [Dingle] boyfriend. It doesn’t make her a murderer.”

He added: “Chas, if she remembers something which proves she wasn’t the killer, it might come back.

“You stuck by Aaron [Danny Miller] no matter what because he’s your son and you reckon Liv is like a daughter to you, but the minute she needs you, the minute she really needs you, you walk away.”

The vet reminded his wife people are innocent until proven guilty in court as the argument escalated.

“She said she didn’t kill Ben and maybe you should believe her,” Paddy warned Chas.

Later on in the episode, Chas decided to visit Liv in jail where she denied ever hurting, yet alone killing, Ben.

Liv said: “I didn’t kill Ben but someone did, someone is still out there.

“[The police] think it’s so obvious but it can’t be, nothing is that easy. And whoever did it would have left a clue as they always do.”

Before Liv could continue to defend herself, the prison visiting time slot had ended and Chas had to leave the building.

Will Chas’ discussion with Paddy cause her to have a change of heart about Liv and give her another chance?

Or will Chas and Paddy continue to argue over Liv as one believes she’s guilty and the other thinks she’s innocent?

Emmerdale continues weeknights at 7pm on ITV.
