EastEnders' Max Bowden devastated as he reveals he's lost his grandad to cancer in heartfelt post

EASTENDERS star Max Bowden has been left heartbroken after his beloved grandfather died of cancer.

The 25-year-old actor, who plays Ben Mitchell in the soap, revealed the sad news on Instagram today, sparking a flurry of messages from his co-stars.

He posted a picture of him holding his grandad's hand, revealing he sadly died on Monday night.

Max told followers: "On Monday evening I lost my grandad to his battle with cancer.

"In his last weeks he was overwhelmed by the amazing love and care the @macmillancancer nurses provided him with.

"For that reason I am reposting my longest day challenge website in the hope of raising more money for them. Please give generously if you can. Thank you."

The star shared a golf challenge he undertook in aid of the Macmillan charity, which supports people who have cancer.

Macmillan's Longest Day challenge, which Max did with two pals, saw teams taking on 72 golf holes in 24 hours.

EastEnders fans have been logging on to the fundraising website and giving generously in support of Max.
