EastEnders kicks off big Max Branning story as his latest plan is revealed

EastEnders kicked off a new custody plot for Max Branning tonight (April 26) as he revealed his plans to raise his granddaughter Abi.

The BBC soap unleashed a big twist earlier this week when it became clear that Max had tied the knot with his former sister-in-law Rainie Cross.

The duo’s quick-fire marriage has certainly sent shockwaves around the Square, with many of the locals unconvinced that Max truly is a changed man.

However, Max started to prove his neighbours wrong in Thursday’s scenes when he teamed up with Rainie to stop baby Harley being taken away by his unstable biological parents.

Having safely returned Harley to the Ahmed family, Max took Rainie to meet little Abi – who has spent the last few months in hospital.

Viewers know that the Branning baby was born prematurely in the aftermath of Abi’s fatal accident at Christmas, meaning there has been a question mark over who would raise her ever since.

But as Max introduced baby Abi to an emotional Rainie, he revealed his plans for them to raise the youngster together.

“A promise is a promise, alright,” he said to his granddaughter. “I know your great-grandmother Cora has got you today, but soon enough you’re going to be with me. With us.”

Max’s plans may have shed more light on why he’s returned to Walford, but could he have a big fight on his hands?

EastEnders continues tomorrow (April 26) at 8pm on BBC One.
