EastEnders fans gobsmacked as Sharon ‘poisons’ Ian as his attacker is confirmed

EastEnders fans were left gobsmacked on Christmas Day as Ian Beale's mystery attacker was finally unmasked.

The scheming Walford businessman, played by Adam Woodyatt, was left for dead earlier this month in the Queen Vic.

The pub owner has been left petrified as a result as the death threats kept coming thick and fast.

He was left terrified during the Christmas Eve episode as a report of his death flashed up at the community event in the Square.

It was finally revealed that it was Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) who was responsible for leaving Ian for dead, and he was instructed to carry out the brutal assault by Sharon (Letitia Dean).

Viewers at home were left gobsmacked the mystery behind Ian's attack was finally solved and the attempted murder was down to the former couple.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: "Sharon and Phil working together, well well well."

Another added: "Sharon/Phil attacking Ian? Surely not!"

A third person posted: "They made us think Sharon and Phil were enemies, naaah genius."

While a fourth said: "Sharon and Phil are working together I'm here for this."

Christmas got off to a tricky start for Ian as he stormed over and accused his younger brother Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) of trying to kill him.

The police arrived to the Square but they arrested Ian's son Peter Beale (Dayle Hudson) after fingerprints were found on the bullets sent to Ian in the post.

Ian later escorted his new wife Sharon (Letitia Dean) to her son Denny's grave, however she demanded that he left because he kept rambling on about his own troubles.

However, in a major twist, Sharon phoned her ex Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) to come to the cemetery and it came to light that the pair were behind Ian's attack in the Queen Vic earlier this month.

Sharon instructed Phil to kill Ian after she discovered that he was involved in Denny's death.

She listened to an old voicemail of Denny crying out for help while locked in a sinking boat back in February.

Sharon had a go at Phil for not finishing off the job properly when he had the chance and demanded that he got rid of her new husband for good as soon as possible.

Phil didn't manage to finish off the job as Ben was with Ian when he went to the Queen Vic.

Sharon stormed over to the Arches to question why Ian was still breathing and Phil refused to murder his son's brother.

Sharon later vowed to get rid of her husband herself and was seen trying to poison Ian with a Christmas pudding at the end of the episode.

Will he survive the lethal move?
