Coronation Street actress Millie Gibson has thrown herself into the homelessness storyline for her troubled character Kelly Neelan and was determined to do it justice.
In the process of getting the scenes right, a focused Millie worked closely with charities and she heard some horrific storylines about what people go through all over the country.
Showing real and genuine emotion, Millie told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s been very challenging again and I was quite nervous to portray this – I worked with Shelter and Children’s Society.
‘It was so heartbreaking to see the situations. Hidden homeless are often women, a mum of three was still homeless after three years.
‘And many are in similar situations to Kelly and another I found out about is seven month pregnant. It’s so sad to see children growing up in this world. There’s no justice.’
Millie was moved to hear about the plight of so many people and plans to continue her work with the organisations.
She added: ‘Yeah I hope to get round there to meet people and see their work. You just can’t imagine the situation especially this time of year, it’s so cold.
‘What’s heartbreaking is Kelly is fundamentally not a bad person, she is just so troubled and I think so many people can relate.
‘There are so many youngsters in her situation so I like highlighting that there is help out there in Shelter and Children’s Society.
‘I can’t nip to the shops without freezing so I can’t even imagine what it must feel for those on the streets.’
