Coronation Street star Jane Danson has teased at her exit from the soap with a cryptic tweet as fans predict she will be killed off the show.
The star has hinted her 24-year stint at Weatherfield is about to come to an end during the dramatic Super Soap Week.
Jane, who plays troubled Leanne Battersby, posted a tweet that said: "Well it's been an incredible 24 years………."
The tweet sent the rumour mill into overdrive as fans predict Leanne Battersby’s life is on the line after evil Harvey Gaskell returned and set out to destroy her.
The controversial tweet was in reply to a post from the official Coronation Street account showing drug lord Gaskell escaping from a prison van on his way to hospital.
The two characters have a troubled history, with Leanne having given evidence against Harvey in court that sent him to prison in a previous episode.
Leanne is set to be involved in one of the week's most dramatic storylines as Gaskell, played by Will Mellor, holds her hostage at the bistro and ties her up during the Halloween celebrations.
Corrie fans have predicted that is where Leanne will meet her end.
In a first look spoiler video released by the soap Harvey makes a sickening threat.
“It’s a shame you tried to ruin my life,” he says.
“Under other circumstances I’d have given you one. I mean, you’ve got a pulse, haven’t you? For now.”
Leanne, who is dressed as Morticia Adams in the grizzle scene is frozen in terror as Harvey gropes her.
But he then decides to use her phone to summon her sister Toyah and son Simon so he can kill them in front of her.
Fans rushed to Twitter to speculate about Leanne’s exit, with one saying: "No way we have loved having you in Corrie it just would not be the same without you".
Another wrote: "It certainly has. And here's to the *next* 24! Now, please stop teasing us all, Jane. I mean, you *are* teasing us all, right?!"
Not everyone was so sure that Danson was being serious about her departure.
One wrote: "Leannes not leaving. If Jane dropped such a spoiler before the airing she would be in a whole crap load more trouble than leanne."
The dramatic scenes will air on Wednesday as Harvey sets out to exact his revenge on Leanne, as well as her sister Toyah, who sabotaged his appeal.
Soap boss Iain MacLeod has confirmed that at least one character will die in upcoming scenes.
Coronation Street continues Wednesday on ITV at 7.30pm
