Cheryl 'off TV for another year as Simon Cowell's BBC dance show is delayed until 2019'

In February, The Sun exclusively revealed how the former Girls Aloud star had snubbed ITV to make her prime time TV comeback on the BBC.

Cheryl, 34, filmed a pilot of the show alongside Glee's Matthew Morrison and Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse, while Britain's Got Talent's Alesha Dixon hosted alongside Diversity's Ashley Banjo.

But the RadioTimes.com claimed today the show – which was rumoured to air later this year – has now been pushed back to 2019.

And as we believe Cheryl has no other TV projects this year, it could be a whole 12 months before she returns to the small screen.

The Greatest Dancer is the latest project for X Factor star Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment and was earmarked for Saturday nights.

However the push back to 2019 could mean it goes head to head with The Voice, which moved from the BBC to ITV in 2017.

The premise for the show will see the UK's best performers from across all genres of dance compete over eight, hour-long episodes in a bid to be crowned the Greatest Dancer.

A TV source previously told The Sun about Cheryl's move to the BBC: “Cheryl’s always been associated with ITV. She was made a star by Popstars: The Rivals.

“Moving to the BBC is a huge deal for her. It’s a trial run at this point. But everyone is hoping it’ll get the green light.

“She’s going to be the star of the show.

“The show is shaping up to be a success. Tuesday was the pilot filming but bosses and Simon have pulled together a strong line-up.

“Alesha and Jordan had great chemistry during the run-through.

"And Matthew and Oti are trained dancers so are perfect choices alongside Cheryl as ‘dance captains’ or mentors.”
