Bradley Walsh, 60, was on hand to help another four contestants walk away from the latest edition of The Chase with an equal share of the jackpot prize. One of the players was 72-year-old Peter, who held a stark resemblance to Hollywood actor Sir Michael Caine, 87. Trying to make light of the situation, Shaun, 60, did his best impression of the award-winning film star and left the host of the ITV quiz show in hysterics.

After Peter managed to accumulate £3,000 in his cash-builder round, it was time for Shaun to face the contestant.

As the quizmaster took his seat, the player could be heard telling Bradley, “you know what’s coming,” after The Dark Destroyer had been making jibes about his appearance throughout the episode.

Following the exchange of pleasantries, the general knowledge guru then started mimicking Sir Michael’s cockney accent.

Listening to his co-star’s impressions, the host couldn’t help himself and burst into laughter, trying to conceal his lack of composure with his hands.

Unable to do so, he even hunched over the game table at one point as he completely lost it before eventually getting himself together.

Peter managed to win the head-to-head round, taking back his original cash total to the player’s table but Shaun continued with his impressions.

Trying to maintain the play of the game, Bradley told his co-star: “Don’t kill the gag,” but his comments fell flat.

“What happens if someone tunes in now?” he remarked, with the quizmaster unphased by the commotion he had caused.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote of The Dark Destroyer’s impressions: “Shaun Wallace seems to be a better actor than the actual Michael Caine! #thechase.”

Another added: “Shaun Wallace gives me life! #TheChase wouldn’t be the same without him! @TheShaunWallace.”

Not everyone was pleased as a third remarked: “Shaun can’t do a Michael Caine impression. Not a lot of people know that. #TheChase.”

“Shaun’s accents all sound the same, b****y stupid #TheChase,” a fourth disgruntled fan of the show shared.

“I know I’ve said this so many times before but Bradley and Shaun really do have the cutest bromance. #TheChase,” a fifth opined.

Despite the comical scenes, 61-year-old Christine also managed to defeat The Chaser and brought back £6,000 to play for in the Final Chase.

With a combined jackpot total of £9,000, the pair put their heads together for the first time in the episode in the concluding round.

They managed to accumulate 14 points which Shaun would have to try and reach in order to defeat his opponents.

Unfortunately for the quizmaster, he struggled and had to give the team several pushbacks as he didn’t know the answers to the questions.

This meant both Peter and Christine walked away with an equal amount of £4,500 after beating The Dark Destroyer.

Commenting on his performance, The Chaser said: “I don’t know what happened there. I just couldn’t get it going.”

Bidding farewell to viewers, the host then referred back to the impressions Shaun had been doing earlier on in the programme.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote of the result: “One of the best chases ever – laugh a minute and the dark destroyer had a mare. .#MichaelCaine #thechase.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
