After Big Bang Theory came to an end in 2019, Kunal Nayyar stepped away from CBS and landed a new role in the Apple TV Plus thriller, Suspicion. With details about the upcoming film firmly under wraps, the actor gave fans a huge insight with a photo of his updated appearance.
Kunal shot into fame on the hit sitcom Big Bang Theory, where he portrayed the beloved Raj Koothrappeli.
In the photo, the actor looked unrecognisable from the character he was well known as – with a head full of hair and a full beard.
In the comedy series, Kunal was clean-shaven, often rocked his hair slicked down and parted down the middle.
This completely different look shocked fans, as they took to his comments to share their excitement for the film.
One was surprised and wrote: “I thought this was Jon Snow/Kit Harrington for a second!”
Another commented: “YOU LOOK SO DIFFERENT. IT’S AMAZING.! ABSOLUTELY RAJ NO MORE!!!”
“You look AMAZING! Can’t wait to see you in this new movie,” an excited fan shared.
A fourth fan suggested: “You should be a villain in every movie you make.”
Suspicion will see Kunal portray a completely different character from the socially anxious astrophysicist he played in Big Bang Theory.
Alongside Umar Thurman and Noah Emmerich, the actor will star in the remake of the Israeli Drama, False Flag.
Uma will play a successful American businesswoman on the hunt for her kidnapped son, with four British citizens staying at the hotel of his abduction becoming prime suspects.
Although the details about Kunal’s character have been kept a secret, his rugged look could suggest he could potentially star as one of the suspects.
The snap was a photo of a screen which appeared to be playing the film, with the actor in the frame looking tense – whilst talking to someone.
This isn’t the first time he’s look has been a hot topic amongst fans, it first happened while he was playing Raj.
Viewers took to Reddit to discuss his hair, as one observant fan spotted it was no longer being straightened.
In the episode titled Confidence Erosion, Raj addressed his decision to keep his hair curly and revealed he only did so because he wanted to fit in with his best friend Howard Wolowitz (played by Simon Helberg).
However as the two had fallen out, he kept his hair curly because he longer cared to be his friend.
In an interview with metro.co.uk, the actor revealed he made a deliberate decision to move away from comedy and be featured in drama: “It was not like, ‘oh I’m only going to do this kind of work’, but it came at the right time. It was definitely what I wanted to do.”
With filming currently underway in London, Suspicion is expected to arrive on Apple TV later this year.
Express.co.uk will be updated with more information about the release.
The Big Bang Theory is available to watch on CBS in the USA and Netflix in the UK.
