BGT viewers accuse judges of ‘ruining’ The Witch’s performance as they’re sent home

Britain’s Got Talent viewers have accused the judges of ‘ruining’ act The Witch's performance on the first of the live semi-final shows on Monday night.

Despite being one of the most popular acts on social media and impressing judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams, the act didn’t get through to Sunday night’s final.

While an automatic spot went to opera singer Maxwell Thorpe, the judges' votes were split, choosing to send through Jamie Leahey, a 13 year old ventriloquist over Junwoo. Meanwhile, the Witch's didn't reach the top three – as they were eliminated during the public vote.

The outcome was not a popular one at all, with the studio audience booing as the lights went down on the magical act.

The creepy act appeared on stage with a small box for each judge, from which they had to pick out a “premonition” on a piece of paper that would conjure their “deepest, darkest fears”.

As each of the judges were tasked with showing their premonitions by putting their hands inside boxes and sacks, they squealed, screamed and appeared reluctant to take part in the scary act.

When the final note, picked out by Amanda, read “rodent”, she was asked to lift the box, revealing a rat inside.

Amanda ran from the judging panel screaming as The Witch took the rat and started taunting her with it, before going back on stage and disappearing through a cloud of smoke.

Many fans of the show felt that the judges ruined the overall performance, with over the top reactions and “banter” which caused the audience to laugh during what was otherwise a very creepy show.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "I'm sorry but the Audacity of the judges tonight during #TheWitches #BGT #BritainsGotTalent Absolutely ruined that act they did. The Witches need to be bought back and re-do another act to make up for what the judges ruined. #BringBackTheWitches."

Another commented: "Playing catch up and the behaviour of the judges during The Witches is appalling and really taking away from the performance! #BGT."

"I think you need to apologise to the witches, best night of there lives and you ruin there dark magic act with cheap banter, no wonder the audience was booing #bgt," wrote another viewer.

Some viewers also expressed their wish for the act to come back as a wildcard entry for the final, with one tweeting: "We demand The Witches get a wild card after the judges totally ruined the act."

Many viewers complained that the act was “robbed”, with others also blaming the British public for not voting them through in first place.

"Haven't watched #BritainsGotTalent in years. Popped down to see my parents watching it, so watched the act by The Witches. Thought it was the best thing I'd seen on there in ages. Creepy and weird. Just heard they got voted off. Brits can't vote correctly for anything can they?," wrote one viewer.

They continued: "Not to mention the judges being a**holes and laughing and cracking jokes during the whole act, ruining the build up and creepy atmosphere. I felt bad for the performer, ngl."

BGT viewers have been trying to work out who the mysterious witches in the act could be, with many "rumbling" tonight's performer as Stephen Mulhern, in cahoots with presenters Ant and Dec.
