Ben Hardy slams EastEnders over gratuitous topless scene as he reveals he refused to strip off for The Woman In White

The 27-year-old, who played Peter Beale in the BBC soap between 2013- 2015, has now refused to strip off for his new TV show The Woman In White.

Speaking on today’s This Morning about one particular scene on the soap, he told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “There was scene I took off my hoody and then my T-shirt to give to Lola, then put my hoody back on.

"I could have just given her my hoody.”

When asked why he did it, he said: “I was young and I did what I was told.”

Ben is currently starring in the BBC adaptation of the Wilkie Collins book The Woman In White playing Walter Hartright.

He revealed he was asked whether he would go topless, but decided against it.

“I was presented with the option of pyjamas or to go topless,” he said.

“It felt like it could have been gratuitous.”

Ben plays a young artist who encounters a ghostly woman dressed in white on Hampstead Heath.

The 28-year-old offers to help her, but later discovers she has escaped from a lunatic asylum.

He leaves London the next day to take up a teaching post in Limmeridge, Cumbria, under Mr Frederick Fairlie (Charles Dance), where he learns of a connection between pupils Laura Fairlie (Olivia Vinall), Marian Halcombe (Jessie Buckley) and the mysterious woman.

Ben, who has also starred in X Men: Apocalypse,  has will next be seen in The Queen biopic playing Roger Taylor.
