Avengers: Infinity War might have been shrouded in secrecy, but the directors have been teasing how the ending is a “game changer” for the MCU.
Anthony and Joe Russo have been speaking to ComicBook.com about how Marvel fans will be desperate to find out what happens next, given that they will have a whole year to pick apart Infinity War before Avengers 4 lands.
“We describe it like this, in the same way that Winter Soldier has a connection to, throws to Civil War, and the same way that Civil War throws to Infinity War, Infinity War will throw to the next film. It’s hard to define it,” Joe Russo said.
And while the Russo brothers have always insisted that Infinity War is its own movie and not “one long movie” that’s been cut in half, they have teased that the movie could well end on a cliffhanger.
“But I think Winter Soldier ended with a game changer in the MCU, Civil War ends with a game changer in the MCU,” Joe outlined.
Well that doesn’t sound good…
The world premiere took place earlier this week for the highly-anticipated movie, with early reactions calling it a “masterpiece”, although critical reactions were more mixed.
Digital Spy‘s three-star review argues that the Russos’ vision is just too ambitious to pull off flawlessly, especially since the final act has to set up Avengers 4: “It’s epic, sure, but if anything it’s too epic. The characters are too many, the action too massive, the stakes too high, the players too powerful.”
Avengers: Infinity War will be released on April 26 in the UK and April 27 in the US. Book tickets now.
