All Creatures Great And Small has been reimagined for a new generation, airing on Channel 5 earlier in 2020. The series was one of the broadcaster’s most successful dramas, and there is no surprise it has been renewed for a second season. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about the season two release date, cast, trailer, plot and more.
When is All Creatures Great And Small season 2 out?
This year saw another TV remake of the iconic Yorkshire vet story, which was originally penned by Alf Wight, better known as James Herriot.
In the series, Herriot is played by talented newcomer Nicholas Ralph, whose character moved to the Yorkshire Dales to pursue a career as a countryside vet.
The series was most welcome during the coronavirus pandemic, and it was a great form of escapism for audiences.
Fans will be pleased to hear Channel 5 made the season two announcement on November 30, and filming will start in Yorkshire in 2021.
A release date for season two is yet to come to light, but it will hopefully be towards the end of 2021, or early 2022. The series has been commissioned for another six hour-long episodes.
Who will be in the cast of All Creatures Great And Small season 2?
The series was the highest-rated show on Channel 5 since 2016 and this is partly due to the refreshing take the cast brought to their characters.
Ralph will reprise his role as Herriot, with Rachel Shenton hopefully returning as his love interest Helen Alderson.
Samuel West should return as Herriot’s boss Siegfried Farnon, and Callum Woodhouse is likely to be back as Siegfried’s mischievous younger brother Tristan.
Anna Madeley will most likely return as head of the household Mrs Hall, and fans will be interested to hear what happened to Helen’s husband-to-be, Hugh Hulton (Matthew Lewis).
Author Wight’s children Jim and Rosie have both praised the stars for their portrayal of the real-life figures in the series.
They said: “We have had wonderful feedback from many and various people, from all walks of life, telling us how they had derived great comfort from watching the new series in these stressful Covid times.
“We are very hopeful that Series 2 will be equally uplifting and entertaining, and we are greatly looking forward to seeing it.”
Is there a trailer for All Creatures Great And Small season 2?
Sadly as news of the second season has only just come to light, there is not a trailer just yet.
Channel 5 will most likely drop a trailer a few weeks before the new season airs, so fans will have to wait until late 2021.
Actor West, who plays Siegfried, shared the news of season two on Twitter, saying: “Well, I hope this news makes you as happy as it makes all of us. All Creatures Great and Small will return for a second series in 2021.
“We had a wonderful time making S1 and we’re thrilled that so many people enjoyed it. Can’t wait to get back to the beautiful Dales #ACGAS.”
However, a special Christmas episode is due to air during the festive period this year, so viewers will not have to wait long for new content.
The Christmas Special will see Herriot continue to pine after Helen, who is due to marry Hugh as she is torn between her head and her heart.
The first season will be made available to fans in the US in January, on Masterpiece, so viewers will get insight into life in the Yorkshire countryside.

What will happen in All Creatures Great And Small season 2?
The second season of this timeless classic will most likely continue to follow the relationship between Herriot and his love interest Helen.
If fans have carried out their research, they will know the real James Herriot, or Alf Wight, ended up marrying his wife on which Helen’s character is based.
They will also be interested to see if Tristan continues his studies as a trainee vet, or whether he will choose to take a different path.
Fans are also likely to learn more about Mrs Hall’s past, and they will find out more about Siegfried’s insecurities.
Actor Ralph spoke to Express.co.uk about the prospect of a second season and he said the show’s success had taken him by surprise.
He said he had a lot of faith in the show from the off, but he was still so proud to have received such an uplifting response from audiences.
The star hoped his character could find love with Helen following a turbulent first series, and fans will definitely be rooting for them.
Before hearing the news of a second season, one fan said on Twitter: “I’ve really enjoyed watching All Creatures Great and Small, but six episodes just wasn’t enough.
“It’s so good to just be able to see something that’s nice, with no stress. Look forward to the Christmas ep and hope for season 2 ASAP. #ACGAS [sic].”
Another fan said after hearing the news: “So exciting! Loved the first series.”
