Who sings the John Lewis soundtrack? Where to listen to Lola Young’s Together in Electric Dreams

The John Lewis Christmas advert debuted today with this year’s song choice already being frantically searched for after hitting screens.

As we’ve come to expect from the retailer, the ad showcases a classic song re-imagined by a modern artist.

This year's offering features the song Together in Electric Dreams, originally by Human League's front man Philip Oakey, reworked by 20-year-old singer Lola Young.

According to a spokesperson for John Lewis, Together in Electric Dreams was chosen by the retailer “as a celestial compliment to the advert”.

This year’s advert tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a young boy called Nathan and an extra-terrestrial at Christmas time.

It was previously rumoured that the brand had approached big name artists such as Adele and Ed Sheeran before deciding on Lola.

Speaking about selecting her for the coveted role, a John Lewis spokesperson said: “Lola is a brilliant up and coming British talent.”

They added that she was “chosen for her rich and unique sound, which brings to life the magic of the advert and the friendship that develops on screen”.

Lola is a singer-songwriter from South London who began writing songs aged 11.

From the age of 13, Lola attended Brit school, where artists including Amy Winehouse, Adele and Loyle Carner also previously studied.

The talented songwriter has performed her track Fake on both Later… With Jools Holland and The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Her song Blind Love has over 1.9 million listens on Spotify, with her track None For You reaching nearly 1.8 million.

Lola’s cover of Together in Electric Dreams has today been released as a single and is available to play streaming sites.

The original song was released in 1997 and was is one of Philip's solo ventures – which he recorded with composer Giorgio Moroder – to soundtrack the film Electric Dreams.

The retailer released the advert one week earlier than previous years after a surge in demand for Christmas products.

While Waitrose has just released details of their incredible seasonal food offerings of over 100 items,John Lewishas followed suit and launched their much loved Christmas shop.

Online searches for Christmas goods are reported to already be up 105%, with the top searches being Christmas trees, lights and wreaths.

So as the nation begins to seek out the best Christmas offerings, John Lewis were keen to get their shop open as soon as they could.
