‘Unhelpful!’ Asda customers ‘stop’ shopping at supermarket

Supermarkets are constantly changing and updating their products to meet customers’ shopping habits. Asda is no exception and it has introduced new rules for anyone wanting to buy its own brand range.

Asda’s own brand food range was previoulsy praised for being so affordable, but it has caused outrage in recent days.

Shoppers have taken to social media to express their disgust with Asda for bringing in the new rules.

Asda has limited how many items of its own brand range shoppers can buy.

Under the new rules, shoppers are only allowed to buy a maximum of three products per supermarket visit.

Signs have been placed in Asda stores to make shoppers aware of the new rules.

The signs read: “We love that you love Just Essentials and we’re working hard to keep up with demand.

“To help make sure customers can get what they need, we’re limiting purchases to three of each product per customer for a short time.”

Shopper Gemma Richardson saw the signs and shared a photo of them on Facebook, accompanied by the caption: “Just to let people know Asda have put limits on the amount of each product of the yellow labels you can buy.”

Other customers commented on the post, expressing their fury at the new change.

Elaine Taylor commented: “That’s all good to stop people stockpiling but when you have a family of seven and can only do a monthly shop, it’s very unhelpful and has now stopped me shopping at Asda because i cant get what we need!!”

Geraldine Waddell wrote: “I buy these in a weekly shop for my elderly mother inlaw with dementia as it’s easier for carers and her budget.

“Get your act together Asda and think of the elderly, vulnerable and those on a tight budget. I’m actually appalled with Asda for this but not surprised.”

Alysha Fletcher said: “Only issue this creates is when you have a large family, you cannot buy what you need. Means I would need to do two separate shops or take hubby shopping with me so he had one trolley and I had another as we are a family of five, with three teenage children.

“And we do monthly food shopping. And taking hubby shopping just creates more stress because he will chuck non listed stuff in and cost me a fortune lol which means I will have to do two lots of shopping over two days (it’s a bit of a trek in the car to do twice in one day).”

However, some customers praised the new initative. Emily Morgan wrote: “I know it’s annoying but I think it will settle down once Asda have data on how much they need to keep up with demand.”

Marks Strong said: “Sensible.”

Gemma Anderton added: “They have put the restriction on so its fair for everyone. It’s because of stock availability and nothing to do with anything else.”

An Asda spokesperson explained that the buying limit will be in place only “for a short period”.

They said: “Just Essentials is proving really popular at the moment and we’e working hard to get the out of stock products back on the shelves as quickly as we can.

“To make sure as many customers as possible can buy these products we are temporarily limiting purchases to a maximum of three of each product. This will be for a short period and we will let you know as soon these limits are removed. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
