Star Paws: Louis Smith and the RSPCA put unwanted pets in the spotlight

Half of us said in a poll we would swipe past a pet for looking ruff.

To help some of the thousands of rescue pets waiting too long for a forever home, smartphone brand Huawei has teamed up with the animal charity, RSPCA to improve the profile picture quality of animals in need of adoption.

Using the latest in Huawei’s smartphone range – the Leica Quad camera system and advanced AI Master technology inside the P30 Pro allows the phone to recognise objects such as a cat or a dog and adjust the settings accordingly, for profile picture paw-fection.

As part of the partnership, Huawei has donated 20 brand new P30 Pro devices across the RSPCA’s rehoming centres, nationwide.

Dr Samantha Gaines, the Head of Pet Welfare RSPCA said “We go above and beyond to find all the animals in our care a loving, forever home and we want to do our best to show them and their unique characters in the best light. Every pet is an individual with their own personalities and needs and it is so important they find the right home. We’ve teamed with Huawei to raise awareness about our harder-to-rehome pets and hope their new, pawfect profile pics will help find them their furever homes.”

Louis said: “A good photo shows off their amazing personalities.”

Holiday hotels catering to your pets

If you didn’t take your dog on your Easter holiday, why not consider it next time?

We went on a road trip along the coast to the fishing town of Grimsby.

With its nearby beaches, beautiful countryside and rich heritage, you’re not short of things to do with your dog in Lincolnshire.

Enjoy a day trip to the beach, visit Henry IV’s birthplace and pop in to Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre – the perfect spot for a rainy day.

There are lots of great places for you to stay with your dog. From cottages and B&Bs to hotels and campsites, there are plenty of options, some even going above and beyond to make sure you and your furry friends feel welcome.

The Healing Manor Hotel (healingmanorhotel.co.uk) is just outside Grimsby and is definitely one of those places.

With dog biscuits, poop bags and bowls on arrival, countryside walks starting from the hotel front door and dog-loving staff ready to give strokes on tap, what more could your four-legged friend want? What if we told you they had a doggy menu?

Yes, that’s right – this dog-friendly hotel even has their very own menu for dogs. Freshly cooked turkey casserole and peanut butter cupcakes are just the icing on the cake.

Our dogs were even brought their very own scrambled eggs in the morning while we had our cooked breakfast.

This isn’t the only place we’ve come across that has gone that extra bit further for our beloved pups. We’ve been to a brewery that makes biscuits out of their spent grain, a barn that offers a two-acre meadow for dogs to roam free in and a pub that has cleverly transformed a used cask into a water dispenser and bowl.

With two bank holidays approaching, now is the perfect time to book your dog-friendly break and forget holidaying abroad.

Have you been anywhere that goes that extra mile for your dog? We’d love to hear your favourite places to go.
