Music promoter Glenn Wheatley dead at 74
Australian music promoter Glenn Wheatley has died of COVID-related complications. He was 74.
Wheatley rose to fame as the producer behind John Farnham’s early success, but was linked to Australian music names spanning the generations, from the Little River Band to Delta Goodrem.
He had been sick with COVID for a number of weeks, and is understood to have passed away in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Wheatley played bass with the 1960s band The Masters Apprentices before turning his attention to producing, setting up his own promotion business and taking charge of The Little River Band in the mid-70s.
A decade later, he famously invested every penny he owned – and mortgaged his house – to back Farnham’s Whispering Jack album.
Richard Wilkins was among those to post tributes overnight.
