What it REALLY takes to get that million dollar shot: Candid snaps from the Met Gala reveal how stars have an army of assistants on the red carpet – and even RIHANNA has to queue up to get her photo taken

A red carpet event takes hours and hours of preparation, from dress fittings right through to hair and make-up.

But photographs from the Met Gala show the hard work required on the red carpet itself to ensure that stars get that million dollar shot.

Actress Blake Lively was pictured with an army of assistants holding up the train of her sweeping gown by Versace, which took 600 hours to make.

Meanwhile, ensuring you don’t accidentally photobomb other stars when they’re having their pictures taken is also good etiquette when attending glitzy A-list events.

Pictures from the Met Gala show celebrities lining up in a marquee on the side of the red carpet to have their turn on the red carpet.

In fact, there doesn’t seem to be a hierarchy when it comes to who goes first, with one picture showing Rihanna – one of this year’s hosts – patiently waiting by the side.

The perils of the red carpet were also shown when footage captured Kendall Jenner pushing an assistant out of the way, when he got into her shot.

Fashion fans were quick to notice the moment, as one Twitter user wrote: ‘Who does kendall think she is? Did y’all see her push that security guy out of the way!?? #MetGala.’

This year’s Met Gala theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, following last year’s Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between theme.

Stars at the event spent the evening treading between three locations within the spectacular setting, as the exhibition spreads between the Anna Wintour Costume Center and the medieval galleries at the main location, and at the Cloisters, uptown.

Other stars including Nicki Minaj were seen waiting in the wings as Madonna had her picture taken in this gothic-inspired ensemble

The Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination exhibition displays 40 Vatican vestments, including Pope Benedict XV’s silk cape and the bishop’s hat of Pope Leo XIII, alongside pieces by Chanel, John Galliano, Balenciaga and Versace.

The theme is being considered the most controversial to date, due to the fact the fashion garments being put on display are sitting alongside ancient, sacred artifacts.

Curator Andrew Bolton, defended the display, saying: ‘Some might consider fashion to be an unfitting or unseemly medium by which to engage with ideas about the sacred or the divine, but dress is central to any discussion about religion.’
