Man spends £27,000 on Christmas decorations to turn his home into a wonderland

Dad-of-two Lee Gilbert, 58, absolutely loves Christmas, and spares no expense celebrating the festive season.

On November 4 he started to put up his collection of decorations, which he has spent £27,000 on so far. Wow.

For this year’s festivities, the store assistant turned his living room into a carnival inspired by a Christmas village, which cost £15,000 alone.

And he has seven Christmas trees, all decked out with baubles he’s spent years collecting.

Lee, of Eveshame, said: ‘When I noticed Christmas decorations are being put up early in shops, I thought why not?

‘It is my favourite time of the year so I didn’t have to think twice.

‘I’ve always loved Christmas but never in a million years thought my collection would be so big.

‘But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

‘I’ve spent ten years collecting props for the village, which now takes over my living room.’

Lee’s impressive Christmas collection started back in 2010, when he first came across the Christmas shops in Florida.

He ended up buying £500 of decorations from that one trip – and became obsessed with the festive delights.

Lee said: ‘It all snowballed from there!

‘The shops in the US are unbelievable, they are as big as our supermarkets.

‘The first item I bought was a Disney bauble of Pluto.

‘My Disney collection has increased over the years – I now have a Disney gallery of lights. And lots of Disney baubles!’
