A bartender has sparked furious debate after he admitted that he ignores any patrons who refuse to tip – while warning that he also warns colleagues about miserly customers so they can avoid them, too.
Michigan-based mixologist Roman, who does not disclose his surname, frequently shares bartending tips and stories with his 12,000 followers on TikTok.
Most recently, the barkeep addressed tipping etiquette – revealing that a stingy gratuity could well be the reason why you find yourself being ignored when trying to order a drink.
In a video, which has so far amassed more than 264,000 views, Roman detailed how choosing not to leave your bartender some extra cash might mean that every employee in the establishment will then ignore you.

Captioning the clip, ‘explaining tipping and employees that rely on tips to customers,’ Roman revealed why customers may not be receiving any service.
He explained that those who don’t tip at all don’t get served, while those that tip ’10 per cent’ will get the attention of a bartender, and those that tip ’20 per cent’ will get immediate service.

Roman said: ‘When you don’t tip, we tell the other bartenders who’s not tipping so we don’t go to you.
‘I’m not saying that you have to tip a lot, but you tip at least 10 per cent, we’ll come to you.
‘You tip 20 per cent or more, we’re going to make sure we get to you.
‘If you tip more than 50 per cent I will RKO [knock out] whoever the f*** is in front of you and make sure you get served. How’s that sound?’
But social media users were left fiercely divided by the sentiment as they flocked to the comments section.
Some of Roman’s followers agreed with him, even claiming that they too had noticed that they received better service.
One person said: ‘Tip 100 per cent on your first drink and you’ll get VIP service all night.’
‘So this is why I get served extremely fast – I always tip 40-50 per cent,’ wrote another person.

One person said: ‘This is why I don’t eat out. Your employer should pay a living wage like mine does, I shouldn’t have to pay exorbitant prices for food and a wage.’

‘Still think it’s crazy that a restaurant underpays there workers and the convince them to blame the customer, you should tip based on service received,’ commented another person.

In recent months, the conversation around tipping culture has reached fever pitch with DailyMail.com revealing that many people are fed up.
And, in February, DailyMail.com took to the streets to canvas real opinion on the matter.
Many stated that tipping was out of control, especially due to rampant inflation sending prices of everyday items soaring.
One person even questioned why they should tip a bartender, saying: ‘I’m not sure why I’m supposed to tip a bartender who reaches for a bottle of beer and takes the top off – five seconds involved.’
