Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter Princess Beatrice waited two weeks to be named as her original moniker was “too yuppie,” it has been claimed.
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson eventually settled on Beatrice for their daughter, however The Sun reports that they changed it.
The initial name was branded “too yuppie” by the Queen, the publication reports, and so her name became Beatrice instead.
As a result of the swap, it took a fortnight for the Yorks to formally announce the name of their newborn.
It was also reported that the Queen suggested Beatrice for her granddaughter, whose full name is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary.
Beatrice’s middle names pay tribute to her grandmother and great-grandmother.
This highlights the importance of picking a name for a potential king or queen, and there are traditions to be followed before the moniker can be shared with the world.
The Queen will always be informed about the name choice to check that she’s happy with it, which is believed to be just an “informal chat,” as opposed to an intimating exchange.
Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are currently expecting their first baby together, however we’re yet to hear any murmurings of possible names.
The pregnant royal, 32, may have given royal fans a clue as to the gender of her unborn child while she enjoyed a meal with friends in the heart of London recently.
Beatrice sported a baby pink face mask which featured a bee wearing a crown as a sweet nod to her royal nickname.
The royal rocked a black laced dress complete with a full skirt and long sleeves that skimmed over her blooming baby bump and complemented her hourglass figure.
Beatrice teamed the look with a pair of pointed slides which were decorated with a large gold jewel on the front to add a bit of glam to her all-black ensemble.
The Queen’s granddaughter announced the exciting news that she was expecting a baby in early May on the royal family Instagram account.
In a statement on the public account, alongside a beautiful picture of the royal couple on their wedding day, it read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn this year.
“The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
