Cleaning pro’s £1.40 DIY paste removes grease from ovens while you sleep

Some cleaning jobs get pushed to the back of the list because they’re tricky and take up a lot of time.

One of those is cleaning the oven – grease and grime gets baked onto the grills and oven door and it can be a nightmare to remove.

Plus, lots of pre-made solutions are filled with harsh chemicals that you might not want to use.

Because of this, research from Thomas Sanderson found that Brits only wipe down their ovens on average once every 18 months!

A study of 2,200 people found out that cleaning the oven is most people’s least favourite chore.

Luckily, expert Dr Richard Hastings, the Healthcare Regulatory & Technical Manager at Hycolin told the Express his top solutions for keeping your oven clean and tidy.

And, if you’re not keen on harsh chemicals then Dr Hastings has a cheap hack which will do the job using household items.

The pro called it his “handy cheat” for keeping the oven clean.

All you need to do is make a paste from baking soda, dishwashing liquid and water and apply it to the inside of your oven.

Then, leave it overnight and wipe it off with a clean sponge in the morning.

You should have a bright and shiny oven with no elbow grease!

You can also try using white vinegar in the paste (around a quarter cup) along with half a cup of washing up liquid and half of bicarbonate of soda.

Again, let it sit overnight and then give it a scrub in the morning with an abrasive sponge to scour away the muck.

Trying either of these hacks won’t set you back much as you can pick up bicarbonate of soda for just 65p from Asda.

And, washing up liquid costs just 75p from Aldi.

Meaning the paste will cost you around £1.40.

Not too bad compared to pricey oven cleaning liquids…
